9th Annual Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest

NEW ORLEANS, LA (Jan. 15, 2020) The 9th Annual Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest announced three more shows in the series today, to take place during the evenings of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, from April 23 – May 3, 2020. Louisiana’s own Tab Benoit hosts the series kickoff party at Republic NOLA on Thu April 23, featuring Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Sansone, and Waylon Thibodeaux, with special guests Whiskey Bayou Review. Samantha Fish will headline The Howlin’ Wolf on Sat April 25, with Brandon Taz Niederauer and special guests to be announced. Marco Benevento will bring his signature “hot dance piano rock” to Republic NOLA late-night on Sat May 2 for an unofficial JRAD After-Party.

Previously announced in the Nolafunk Series: First weekend shows at the series’ longtime stomping ground Republic NOLA include the return of Voodoo Dead, the highly sought-after Grateful Dead-meets-New Orleans supergroup, on both Fri April 24 and Sat April 25; and an Official Umphrey’s McGee After-Party with Doom Flamingo featuring Ryan Stasik of Umphrey’s McGee, late night on Sat April 25. The second weekend kicks off with Dead Feat, a one-of-a-kind project formed for Jazz Fest in 2011, playing Thu April 30 at Republic NOLA in honor of Little Feat’s Paul Barrere, who passed away in October. On Fri May 1 during the second weekend, The Allman Betts Band, Tab Benoit, and Samantha Fish will perform a triple co-headline bill at The Fillmore; and Melvin Seals & JGB plus special guest Jackie Greene will perform after Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (JRAD) late night at Republic NOLA. 

The series also features The Marcus King Band and Billy Strings co-headlining two nights at The Civic Theatre on April 30 and May 1, 2020, which are both sold out. In addition, The Marcus King Band will play a headlining show on May 2, with special guests to be announced.

The Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest takes place during the evenings and weekends of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, from April 23 – May 3, 2020. As always, the series features a diverse collection of special performances from musicians inside and out of the New Orleans cultural sphere who all embrace the spirit and essence of the city. There will be many more announcements to follow in the coming weeks and months.
