Weekly Artist Spotlight: Cabinet

In its purest form, bluegrass is a truly American genre, rooted in the cultural soil of Americana tradition. Making a comeback over the last handful of years at festivals and in live settings, bluegrass music is no longer a genre of the past. In the Northeast, we have the emerging jamgrass superstars Cabinet at the forefront of creating new and relevant bluegrass music, pairing the distinctive plucking style with jams and the energy that is expected of today’s music.

Rolling Stone magazine recently hailed Cabinet as the Best Grassroots Movement following this year’s Peach Festival, held in annually in August, on Montage Mountain, near the band’s home turf of Scranton PA.

Cabinet was formed in 2006 by a pack of musicians with varied styles and influences who shared a passion for older styles of music. But what made their sound so distinctive was their ability to fuse their obsession with older music with their interest in fresh, modern forms.

Hosting their own annual festival, Susquehanna Breakdown, also at Montage Mountian since its humble beginnings in 2014, Cabinet has secured themselves as more than just another name on a lineup. Boasting headliners like Greensky Bluegrass, Keller Williams, and The Wood Brothers alongside Cabinet’s 3 shows, as well as a barrage of other great up-and-coming jam and bluegrass artists, Susquehanna Breakdown is a festival that continues to grow with Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the Peach Festival has served as a crucial launching pad for the band’s growth, as they worked their way up from small daytime sets to multiple primetime sets with special guests in the last few years.

Catch Cabinet when they come to NYC on October 20th at The Cutting Room! Tickets are still available here! Definitely not a band to miss!
