African Beats, Blues, and Funk on 6/8

Old Man Brown has been labeled as ‘new southern soul’. Based in the Baltimore area, Old Man Brown is a combination of rock, blues, soul, and funk that honors traditional sounds while incorporating modern funk and rock. Freddie King, the Allman Brothers, and Little Feet inspire their music. In 2005 they made three ballot spots in the Grammy’s for Best Rock Group or Due, Best R&B Vocals, and Best Rock Song. They have shared the stage with the Derek Trucks Band, Levon Helm, and Canned heat.

Primarily introducing an African feel, Zozo Afrobeat and Kaleta’s music pays homage to the greats. Lyrics are written to challenge governmental corruption in a respectful yet humorous way. Keleta flaunts outstanding energy while singing, dancing, playing guitar and percussion. Zozo Afrobeat has played at the Central Park Summersage, Lincolm Center “Out of Door” Festival, and the Brooklyn Museum. Consisting of 13 members, their origination ranges from the United States to Botswana, Nigereia, and Cameroon.
