Tuesday Artist Spotlight: Choir! Choir! Choir!

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to play live music before an audience, but never had the opportunity to do so? Have you ever wanted to be a part of a live music performance, but are perhaps a bit too timid to get up on stage by yourself? If these thoughts ever crossed your mind, then the musical experience that is Choir! Choir! Choir! was built exclusively for you.

Founded in February of 2011 by Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman, Choir! Choir! Choir! (sometimes stylized C!C!C!) is a no-commitment singing event where the duo interactively teaches an audience how to sing modern pop classics in a traditional choral format over the course of a few hours. I had the opportunity to personally take part in a C!C!C! event at The Hall at MP in Brooklyn a few months ago, and by the end of the night I was simply taken aback by how beautifully the audience executed a composed rendition of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

Goldman will typically play guitar on stage as backing chords to help the audience find its pitch, while Nobu energetically moves around the crowd to help attendees nail their arrangements. What’s more is both Nobu and Daveed are established comedians, so the entire night is not only filled with musical satisfaction, but also comedy and frequent laughter. At the end of each session, C!C!C! will typically record the final performance in some fashion, providing the audience with a nice memento to remember the experience.

This summer, Daveed & Nobu are bringing their unique music experience from Toronto to the Big Apple for a three-date residency at the Cutting Room on E 32nd Street and Park Ave. The residency is called “The Holy Trinity,” and each night C!C!C! will honor three different pop stars who helped define modern music. For the first night on Thursday, May 25th, C!C!C! will teach the audience to sing “When Doves Cry” by the late Prince. For the second night on Thursday, June 22nd, the audience will learn to perform a choral rendition of Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita.” Then on the final night in July, on a date to be announced, C!C!C! will conclude its three night residency with a song by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. Tickets for the residency can be purchased here. Stay on top of everything C!C!C! by following them on Facebook, and checking out their Official Website.
