Widespread Panic Keyboardist Announces “JoJo Hermann’s Mardi Gras Party” Featuring A Special Solo Set And Performance With Slim Wednesday Plus Special Guests
NEW YORK, NY (Feb 5, 2019) National promoter Nolafunk is thrilled to announce their annual Mardi Gras Tour with JoJo Hermann’s Mardi Gras Party featuring a rare special solo set by JoJo Hermann of Widespread Panic to kick off each night plus a performance with side project Slim Wednesday. The run will hit The Hamilton Live in Washington, DC (2/28) with special guests Brass-a-holics from New Orleans, Metro Gallery in Baltimore, MD (3/1), Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, PA (3/2) with Billy Walton Band, and Brooklyn Bowl in NY (3/5).
Mix Jojo Hermann from Widespread Panic with The Dynamites and what do you get? Slim Wednesday, the day after Fat Tuesday—Southern Psych-Soul. Straight out of a deep soul/funk/boogie voodoo cauldron, Slim Wednesday’s debut full-length, Reptile Show, jumps from jam to deep dish funk to New Orleans piano to troubadour soul to Toussaint-style gut bucket. Slim Wednesday performs some classic songs that Widespread Panic also performs such as “Red Beans” and“Bayou Lena”.
Slim Wednesday’s lineup is stacked with funk, soul and jazz sluggers–with Jon Jackson (Macy Gray) on sax, Ben Clark (Anderson East) on trumpet, Jojo Hermann (Widespread Panic) on keys and vocals, Greg Bryant (Dara Tucker) on bass, Bill Elder (a.k.a. Leo Black from The Dynamites) on guitar and vocals, and Kevin Mabin, the heavy-hitting groove machine for this band since the get-go. All very busy guys, but several times a year, the planets align to bring this krewe together on the road, in order to deliver Louisiana soul, funk, and boogie in their truest, and newest forms.
A section of this show will be dedicated to the musical legacy of New Orleans’ piano legend Professor Longhair who would have turned 100 this year.
