Weekly Artist Spotlight: Polyrhythmics

Though funk may not spring to mind as the classic Seattle sound, Polyrhythmics are ready to change that. Quickly gaining more and more attention, the Seattle based instrumental octet are on the road and ready to make you dance! Dipping their toes in everything from low-key Afrobeat grooves to high-octane dance-your-butt-off funk, Polyrhythmics showcase everything we love about funk, with a modern fusion twist.

With their upcoming album Caldera written in the shadow of the active volcano Mt. Hood, Polyrhythmics are setting out on a nationwide tour to bring their volcanic music to ears all across the nation. The album releases on September 22nd, which just so happens to be the same day as their NYC show! Is there a better way to celebrate new music besides hearing it played live? Polyrhythmics’ Knitting Factory show is only their 4th stop on their extensive nationwide tour, with over 25 dates. So if you’re not lucky enough to live in the musical mosh pit that is NYC, you’ll have plenty of chances to get your funk on!

For a little taste of Polyrhythmics’ worldly funk sound, check out their official video of “Goldie’s Road” off the upcoming Caldera.

Keeping it simple and straightforward, this new video displays the band’s focus on the raw music with their drawn out funk-fusion groove. No extra flashy effects are needed for a band that can let their sound speak for itself. Focusing in and displaying each of the eight members’ masterships of their instruments and their intricate interplay, it’s clear that Polyrhythmics is more than just another name in the sea of funk bands. Be on the lookout for them on upcoming festival lineups and be sure to catch them when they come to NYC on September 22nd for their late night show at The Knitting Factory! Tickets are available here!
