Kirk Joseph this Thursday
Good stuff coming up—this Thursday night’s Sullivan Hall lineup features some top brass: Kirk Joseph, New Orleans’ top jazz sousaphonist and a founding member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, appears with his Backyard Groove project. Kirk was here over the weekend, as part of fellow New Orleans native Anders Osborne’s band.
“Sir Kirk (Joseph), the sousaphone player, is such an obvious star cause it’s so unusual to have somebody so fluent on an instrument which almost by definition is not fluent, really. He’s a one-in-a-million player.”
—Elvis Costello talking to Tom Waits in Option Magazine

Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove appears at 10pm. The Jambalaya Brass Band appears at 9. $15 door. Tix here.
