Saturday night reggae & more…

This Saturday features an extensive bill of excellent live reggae, and it’s capped off by the Sullivan return of a relatively young band we’re really excited about. The Movement hails from Philadelphia, and has recently undergone the shift from operating as a DJ-based trio to a full-band act. Fusing grooving reggae with heavy rock and smooth hip-hop, their first album released with this lineup (late 2008’s Set Sail) broke the top ten most-downloaded reggae albums on iTunes. They’ve already played with everybody from 311 and G. Love (who’s featured on the album) to Ludacris and The Wu. It’s pretty clear that these guys are going to be big.

I could continue to talk about how solid they are, but it seems to make more sense to just show you. Here’s a video from last June. The track is called “Hola.”

This is going to be an incredibly cool night. Hope we see you there.

The Movement hits Sullivan at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6th. Filling out the bill are Mighty Mystic, Black River Sound, EMEFE and Brother Han. Music starts at 7:30, and it’s $10 for the night. Tix here.
